The Sussex Barn at Hellingley is a brilliant location in Sussex, and real rustic barn. It’s on a working farm which gives it lots of interesting and industrial backdrops as well as the more traditionally pretty locations of the surrounding fields so you have the choice which I love!
The barn is a real DIY affair and quite dark, with only one row of windows low down at one end – this can create some really interesting light pockets for images as you will see in my set below. Once night falls it does get very dark in the barn, so lots of atmospheric lighting is useful and a photographer with some good flash skills is also a must – I really love the off camera flash images that I caught for my couple during their speeches especially.

We started the day with Emily getting ready at her parents house – where friends arrived to set up their tents – I’d loved to have seen the after party and the morning after, it must have been an amazing night and so wonderful to have their friends to wake up with for an alfresco breakfast!
Emily was driven by her dad to the Sussex Barn. Emily and Paul had gone to a lot of effort to dress the ceremony area and it looked amazing!!
Unfortunately I don’t have their supplier details but I do know their catering was by the lovely Liz at Silvia’s Kitchen who I believe is local to the Sussex Barn in Hellingly. Liz supplied an amazing sharing feast, wrapped beautifully in brown paper and string, hampers were distributed to all of the tables and then those at either ends handed the packages around to be shared by everyone. For desert they had doughnuts and chocolate brownies, and then in the evening they had a Pizza Van.
Emily and Paul ended their day with a band in the evening followed by silent disco!! Sadly I wasn’t around late enough to witness this brilliant fun! Love a bit of silent disco!!
